I enjoy rheumatology for 2 reasons.
Firstly, it is an exciting field of
medicine with more new innovative
therapies emerging compared to all other
specialties. Secondly, we treat chronic
illnesses which means I have the
opportunity to establish a relationship
with patients as I see them regularly
over an extended period of time. I enjoy
participating in the continuity of care.
I am from North Carolina, the first
state to establish Physician Assistant
Studies at Duke University in the
1970’s. I completed an honors genetics
course at Duke University, then
graduated from Meredith College in
Raleigh, NC Summa Cum Laude with a
degree in Health Science and Chemistry.
I went on to graduate from Wake Forest
University Medical School’s PA Program
with honors. I have been a PA in
rheumatology since early 2001.
I have had the pleasure of seeing the PA
profession grow over the past 10 years
in Illinois. In addition to being
nationally certified, I completed post
graduate fellowship training through the
American College of Rheumatology. I have
also been trained to use ultrasound
guided needle injections.
In practice, I consider myself an
extension of the physician. Physician
Assistants are sometimes referred to as
“physician extenders”. I see patients in
follow-up and for emergency visits for
acute pain. I can diagnose and treat,
prescribe medications and any adjunctive
treatments like physical therapy, plus
perform any injections that may be
needed to help pain during the visit.
Thank you for choosing our office for
your care. |
