Lori B. Siegel, M.D., F.A.C.P., F.A.C.R.
I am originally from Milwaukee and most of my family is still there. I have wanted to be a physician since I was 6 years old, but I studied languages along with the sciences in college because of my passion for communication and learning about different people and cultures.

A few words about my education and training:

Bachelor of Science Degree in 1982 from The University of Wisconsin-Madison, French major and Spanish minor
Fac de Lettres, Aix-en-Provence, France, year abroad program
Medical Degree in 1987 from The Medical College of Wisconsin
Internal Medicine Residency at Georgetown University in Washington, DC
Rheumatology Fellowship at Georgetown University in Washington, DC
Mini-Fellowship in rehabilitation and musculoskeletal diseases at the NIH in Bethesda, Maryland
After my training I came back to the Midwest and became staff and faculty at The Chicago Medical School and the North Chicago Veterans Administration Hospital. I truly found my passion in teaching and became chief of rheumatology, as well as a professor of medicine. I was also Assistant Dean for education and led the school in curricular innovations.

I enjoy writing and speaking and have written many chapters, papers, and spoken on many areas of rheumatology. Along with my teaching, I have actively practiced rheumatology for the past 13 years and enjoy taking care of people. I feel strongly that communication and honesty are essential to a good physician patient relationship.

I love rheumatology because it is one field in which the doctor and patient are a true team discovering the causes of various conditions and working together in treatment plans. I encourage my patients to read about their conditions and medications and ask me lots of questions. Although I feel sad when someone comes to see me because it means they are in pain, I look forward to helping them feel better!

I hope I can help you!
